Die Designed for Performance

Engineered for Precision.

At VAEC Aluminium Extrusion Pvt Ltd, every aluminium profile begins with a high-precision die, crafted in-house for accuracy, durability, and optimal material flow. Our fully integrated die manufacturing facility is equipped with advanced tooling systems, simulation software, and skilled engineers dedicated to producing custom aluminium extrusion dies that meet complex dimensional and mechanical specifications.

With over 15 years of aluminium extrusion expertise, we offer fast, reliable die production for a wide range of industries, including automotive, architectural systems, renewable energy, transport, defence, aerospace, and electronics, serving both the Indian and international markets.

In-House Die Manufacturing Capabilities

Our dies are optimized for extrusion presses ranging from 10 MN to 32 MN, enabling us to deliver profiles with tight tolerances, enhanced surface quality, and extended tool life.

Why Die Quality Matters in Aluminium Extrusion

The extrusion die is the heart of profile manufacturing. Its quality directly affects:

At VAEC, our dies are manufactured with an uncompromising focus on metallurgy, flow dynamics, wear resistance, and turnaround speed, resulting in lower rejection rates, faster setup, and higher repeatability in profile output.

VAEC Die Manufacturing Process

1. Design Brief and CAD Modelling
Every new aluminium profile begins with a detailed technical drawing or customer specification. Our engineering team converts this into a 2D/3D CAD model of the extrusion die, considering alloy type, press size, expected load, wall thickness, and profile complexity.
2. Flow Simulation with QForm
Using QForm simulation software, we simulate material flow across the die cavity, identify potential imbalances, and optimize the design to ensure:

Uniform flow distribution

Elimination of dead zones

Minimized surface defects and internal stress

This reduces trial-and-error and shortens time-to-production, especially for complex, multi-void or hollow sections.
3. Tool Steel Selection & Machining
Die blocks are machined from premium-grade hot-work tool steel (H13 or equivalent) for high wear resistance and thermal stability. Precision CNC machining, wire-cut EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), and high-speed milling ensure close tolerances and smooth finish.
4. Heat Treatment & Hardening
Each die undergoes controlled heat treatment and hardening to achieve the required hardness level (typically 45–52 HRC). This process maximizes tool life and enables the die to withstand extreme pressures and temperatures during extrusion.
5. Polishing and Finishing
Critical surfaces of the die cavity and bearing lands are hand-polished or mechanically lapped to reduce friction, improve metal flow, and enhance the final profile’s surface quality.
6. Die Assembly and Trial
Complex dies (such as hollow or porthole dies) are assembled with their mandrels or bridges and checked for concentricity and alignment. We run trial extrusions in select cases to validate dimensional accuracy before full-scale production.
7. Storage and Lifecycle Management
All dies are digitally tagged, documented, and stored in a climate-controlled die library with usage logs. We follow strict die lifecycle management to ensure consistent output, scheduled refurbishments, and zero surprise failures during production.
